Here are just a few examples of the work of creative companies in promoting innovation and excellence and contributing towards the regeneration of King’s Cross:

The British Library is one of the world’s greatest libraries, with a collection spanning 3000 years of culture and creativity, which includes 150 million items, ranging from the Magna Carta, through images and sound, to today’s newspapers. At its flagship building in the heart of King’s Cross, the Library provides access to its unique and inspirational collections through reading rooms, and an exciting range of free public exhibitions. The Library has opened a Business & Intellectual Property Centre targeted at small and medium sized enterprises and entrepreneurs in the creative (and scientific) industries to help foster creativity, innovation and successful commercialisation. It provides comprehensive business and intellectual property information including high value databases, market research reports, trade journals, directories and patents, all of which it makes available for free in the Library.

The Place is an international centre for dance and Britain’s largest national dance agency. It has been based in King’s Cross for over 35 years and houses a wide variety of contemporary dance activity, ranging from classes for adults of all ages and children from 5 upwards to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at London Contemporary Dance School and performances from around the world at the Robin Howard Dance Theatre. A Learning and Access programme works extensively with local schools, and The Place Prize, launched in 2004, is a £300,000 choreographic competition for UK-based choreographers, made possible by sponsorship from Bloomberg.
